More generally, intrinsic viscosity can be used to assay quaternary structure. For example, the intrinsic viscosity can provide rough estimates of the number of subunits in a protein fiber composed of a helical array of proteins such as tubulin. The intrinsic viscosity is very sensitive to the axial ratio of spheroids, especially of prolate spheroids. The intrinsic viscosity formula may also be generalized to include a frequency dependence. It is possible to generalize the intrinsic viscosity formula from spheroids to arbitrary ellipsoids with semiaxes a, b and c. Instead of the steady pacing of the first two seasons, season 3 feels like someone pressed fast forward and forgot to let go. But this season has a time skip a few episodes in, jolting Devi and her friends into their junior year and hustling them along so that they can wrap up the school year and get everything in place for the show’s last season. The first two seasons of the show take place in the first half of Devi’s sophomore year. This time around, though, the frenzied pacing means that those arcs have less room. It’s particularly frustrating because these characters are still compelling and their storylines are still engaging - and the previous two seasons took great care in giving every character’s story enough time to gestate. When one of them gets a big story moment, it gets built up for an episode or two before being hastily tied up and put away so that someone else can have the spotlight. But this time, there are just so many characters that some of them naturally fall to the wayside. This is pretty in line with the previous seasons, where Fabiola’s coming out storyline and Eleanor’s complicated relationship with her mother helped to flesh out their character arcs. The show doesn’t just explore the lives of Devi and her friends, but also dives into Ben’s, Paxton’s, Kamala’s, and Devi’s mother’s journeys. Part of the reason is because the cast is just so much bigger. It’s not quite a “one problem per episode” sitcom formula, but it doesn’t have as much throughline this time around compared to seasons past. But this time around, the threads connecting the separate episodes seem thinner than ever. Never Have I Ever is a comedy made up of 30-minute episodes, so some level of episodic detachment is expected. This all seems like enough setup and plot to fuel a whole season, but the show resolves all of those separate plot points pretty quickly - only to introduce completely new problems that also get rapidly solved. At home, Devi’s cousin Kamala (Richa Moorjani) deals with their grandmother’s disappointment after she turned down a marriage proposal. Meanwhile, her friends grapple with their own relationship problems: robotics nerd Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) tries to navigate a suddenly long-distance relationship theater kid Eleanor (Ramona Young) isn’t even sure if Paxton’s slacker friend Trent (Benjamin Norris) is into her and Devi’s academic rival Ben (Jaren Lewison) keeps flubbing his relationship with athletic Aneesa (Megan Suri). While Devi is finally living her dream of having a relationship with the hottest guy in school, she is still fixated on what other people think about her, which ends up causing her to doubt Paxton’s feelings. Season 3 kicks off with Devi and super popular Paxton (Darren Barnet) making their official debut as a couple - much to the shock and disbelief of the rest of the school, who can’t believe that a nerd like Devi is dating a hot jock. As a result, a lot of what makes the show so special gets lost in the race toward the end. This new season does have some of that, but the creators seem determined to put everything on the fast track to get all the characters where they need to be for season 4 and senior year. With a fun, eclectic cast to round Devi out, Never Have I Ever succeeded in balancing over-the-top hijinks with genuine heart and really nailed the big feelings of being a teenager. After her father’s death, Devi spent freshman year as a social pariah, and the first two seasons of Never Have I Ever focused on her quest to gain some social status during sophomore year, continue excelling at her studies, and balance her strict mother’s expectations. The Netflix series returns to the life of overachieving high school student Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan). And for better or worse, the new season of Never Have I Ever decides to speedrun through junior year too. In retrospect, no matter how long and arduous it seemed at the time, high school actually went by in the blink of an eye. Additionally, sustained elevations in heart rate over the course of the study were a strong predictor of developing hypertension necessitating pharmacologic therapy. In the HARVEST study, 15 % of hypertensive patients had a resting heart rate > 85 beats per minute, and approximately 27 % had a heart rate > 80 beats per minute. One rationale for consideration of heart rate in choosing antihypertensive medications comes from the observation that increased heart rate is a common feature in hypertensive patients and elevated heart rate is associated with development of hypertension. Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, and Hypertension-Location, Location, Location Herein, we review the link between heart rate and peripheral and central blood pressure, and the effect of chronotropic medications on blood pressures and adverse clinical outcomes. Interestingly, the guidelines do not consider heart rate in choice of antihypertensive medications, despite the link between heart rate and development of hypertension and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Absolute blood pressure is also a consideration in the treatment of hypertension initiation of treatment with two drugs is recommended for patients with significantly elevated blood pressure. Similarly, treating patients with heart failure with beta-blockers reduces all-cause mortality. Among patients with diabetes and nephropathy, treatment with angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) is recommended to reduce progression of kidney dysfunction and decrease rates of ESKD. Clinical situations for which certain classes of antihypertensive medications are specifically recommended include diabetes, proteinuric kidney diseases, and comorbid conditions, such as coronary artery disease (CAD) and congestive heart failure (CHF). Numerous therapeutic options exist for the treatment of hypertension. Management of hypertension is a significant focus of both primary care providers and hypertension specialists. There is a continuous relationship between increasing blood pressure and cardiovascular disease, stroke, and end stage kidney disease (ESKD). For the calendar year of 2010, cost estimates attributed to hypertension have surpassed 90 billion dollars. In the United States, recent data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) report a prevalence of 30.5 % among men and 28.5 % among women. Hypertension is a major public health problem and a known independent risk factor to cardiovascular disease. We review the relationship between heart rate and peripheral and central blood pressure, with a focus on the implications for chronotropic therapy in hypertension. The use of antihypertensive medications, specifically medications that affect heart rate, may not reliably reduce central blood pressure to a similar extent as observed peripherally. Additionally, while there is a positive correlation between heart rate and peripheral blood pressure, there is an inverse relationship between heart rate and central blood pressure. In part, this is due to a lack of evidence supporting heart rate lowering as a therapeutic strategy in hypertension. Despite these important relationships, heart rate is generally not a major consideration in choosing antihypertensive medications. Elevated heart rate is associated with elevated blood pressure, increased risk for hypertension, and, among hypertensives, increased risk for cardiovascular disease. AFib can be managed with a doctor’s care and medication, and early diagnosis and treatment can prevent such complications.Hypertension is a common clinical problem and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke. If left untreated, AFib can lead to heart failure or blood clots that may lead to stroke. People with AFib often live healthy, active lives. The amount of time your heart is in AFib can potentially be reduced with regular physical activity, a heart-healthy diet, a healthy weight, and treatment of other medical conditions that could worsen AFib. Others experience symptoms that could include rapid heartbeat, palpitations, fatigue, or shortness of breath.ĪFib is a chronic condition, but the amount of time people spend in AFib can change. Some individuals with AFib don’t experience any symptoms. Irregularities in heart rhythm become more common as people get older. AFib is a type of irregular heart rhythm where the upper chambers of the heart beat out of sync with the lower chambers.Īccording to the CDC, approximately 2% of people younger than 65 years old and 9% of people 65 and older have AFib. In Ancient times, Mars was the god of war but was also the guardian of the spring. In some myths, this tradition has been attributed to the god Mars, otherwise known as Ares by the Greeks. Like the holiday itself, the tradition of wearing red & white is buried in folklore as well. If it wasn’t clean, then she wouldn’t come and winter would stick around. In this legend, Baba Marta wouldn’t visit a person’s house unless it was clean. When she was angry: the skies became overcast, the wind grew cold and winter lasted all that much longer. When she was happy: the sun came out, the winds were balmy and the skies were blue. One minute she’s happy and the next minute she’s very angry, which would be fine if her temperament didn’t directly influence the weather. In one legend, Granny March (Baba Marta) is seen as a woman who is a little bit off of her rocker. While the truth behind this holiday may be hidden behind the mists of time, there are quite a few legends surrounding how this holiday originated. Regardless of its origin, however, it is known that it is probably one of the ancient traditions that formed on the Balkan Peninsula and is probably related to ancient agricultural cults. Some people have even speculated that it may even go all the way back to Ancient Greece or Rome. While no one knows exactly the origin of Baba Marta, it is known that it goes back centuries – perhaps, even millennium. The Romanian holiday Mărțișor is a variant of Baba Marta.Bulgaria (Observance) History of Baba Marta It also resembles the German tradition of hanging empty eggs in blossoming trees during the (now Christian) Eastern folklore and the Persian tradition of hanging fruit in trees at midwinter. The Bulgarian tradition resembles folklore known in parts of Asia and South America, to wear a lucky bringing friendship bracelet around the wrist until it wears out. Some people then tie their martenitsa to a tree, others place it under a rock and based on what they find there the next morning guess what kind of a year this one would be. People wear martenitsa for a certain period, the end of which usually is connected with the first signs of spring birds like storks or swallows. Children usually compete who will get the most. The martenitsa comes in all shapes and sizes - from building packages to strings on a newborn's arm. In ancient times women’s wedding dresses were red. Red represents the woman and health: it is a sign of blood, conception and birth. Later, under the influence of Christian mythology it began to indicate integrity and virginity – white is the color of Christ. The white color first symbolized man, the power light solar zone. In the small villages in the mountains people decorate their houses, kids and domestic animals. They are given away to friends and family and are worn around the wrist or on clothes. Martenitsi are red and white coloured bands or figurines that symbolise health and happiness, a lucky charm against evil spirits. Martenitsi Martenitsi, hung on fruit tree in blossom, Bulgaria. The beach was named after the Baba Marta. This story can also be found in German folklore, for instance in the "Frau Holle" or Mother Hulda legend.īaba Marta Beach is a beach on the southern coast of Nelson Island, an Island off of Antarctica. One says that on that day she does her pre-spring cleaning and shakes her mattress for the last time before the next winter - all the feathers that come out of it pour on Earth like snow - the last snow of the year. As folklore there are different versions of the Baba Marta tale. The tradition of giving friends red-and-white interwoven strings brings health and happiness during the year and is a reminder that spring is near.īaba Marta ("Grandma March") is believed to be a feisty lady who always seems to be grudging at her two brothers, January and February, while the sun only comes out when she smiles. Bulgarians celebrate on March 1 a centuries-old tradition and exchange martenitsi on what is called the day of Baba Marta. This leaves the outer ear, which is also indispensable for hearing, but is comparatively overlooked. Currently, the clinician’s arsenal is best equipped to treat middle ear disease, which consequently receives the lion’s share of clinical attention ( Cunningham and Tucci, 2017). However, there are limited options for treating sensorineural hearing loss with many potential treatments in the experimental phase ( Devare et al., 2018). Hearing loss is most commonly caused due to pathology in the inner ear, referred to as sensorineural hearing loss, which consequently receives the lion’s share of scientific research ( Cunningham and Tucci, 2017). This intricate leverage mechanism corrects the impedance mismatch between gas and liquid allowing airborne sound waves to move hair cells in the fluid-filled cochlea, generating neural signals that are transmitted to the auditory cortex via the cochlear nerve. The middle ear ossicles connect the TM to the much smaller oval window of the inner ear. The pinna or auricle directs sound waves into the external auditory Meatus (EAM), which then funnels sound waves toward the ear drum or tympanic membrane (TM), causing it to displace and move the ossicular chain of bones in the air-filled middle ear. The mammalian ear is a crucial and fascinating sensory organ formed from the integration of three parts ( Figure 1). That we can “hear” these waveforms involves a complex array of neurophysiological mechanisms which begin at the outer ear and end at the auditory cortex. Sound is essentially a series of pressure waves in our airborne environment. Hearing places us within our external environment, allowing us to experience a multi-dimensional world, to listen and to communicate. Together this knowledge allows clinical questions to be approached from a developmental biology perspective. Here we review our current understanding of ear canal development how this biological lumen is made what determines its location and how its structure is maintained throughout life. Recent studies have built on decades-old knowledge of ear canal development and suggest a novel multi-stage, complex and integrated system of development, helping to explain the mechanisms underlying congenital canal atresia and stenosis. Defects in development, or later blockages in the canal, lead to congenital or acquired conductive hearing loss. Unique anatomical adaptations, such as its migrating epithelium and cerumen glands, equip the ear canal for its function as both a conduit and a cul-de-sac. Within our complex hearing pathway, the ear canal is responsible for funneling sound waves toward the tympanic membrane (ear drum) and into the middle ear, and as such is a physical link between the tympanic membrane and the outside world. This review focuses on the often-neglected outer ear, specifically the external auditory meatus (EAM), or ear canal. The mammalian ear is made up of three parts (the outer, middle, and inner ear), which work together to transmit sound waves into neuronal signals perceived by our auditory cortex as sound.

But overall, there’s nothing here that I couldn’t get through other releases within the Super Junior universe. There’s some great vocal interplay here, with one harmonized power note that definitely impresses. Kali ini saya akan membahas profil dari sub grup ' Super Junior KRY ' Debut awal sub grup ini dimulai pada 5 November 2006 di acara musik televisi ' Musik Bank ' dengan membawakan lagu ' The One I Love ' yang menjadi OST drama HYENA (2006). Ballad-lovers will be pleased, especially as the track soars to its inevitable climax. ' Its already sweeping iTunes charts worldwide. The mini-album has 6 tracks, plus the title track, ' When We Were Us. This familiarity brings with it a sense of nostalgia, which is a smart move for a group with as much history behind it as K.R.Y.Īs far as the actual song, it ticks all the boxes without bringing anything new to the table. Its their first-ever EP, as well as their first Korean release since debut. Maybe it’s because he opens the track, but I instantly had flashbacks to At Gwanghwamun (still his best solo ballad, in my opinion). When We Were Us reminds me of Kyuhyun’s solo work, in particular. I imagine this will thrill fans, as the piano-and-strings arrangement is very much in line with solo releases by each member. At the very least, it’s a well-earned reunion, as the last few years have seen at least one of them enlisted in the military at any given time.Īs expected, the guys have returned with the style they deliver best – a good, old fashioned Korean ballad. But in a way, When We Were Us (푸르게 빛나던 우리의 계절) is a quasi-debut for this trio of Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung.
